The abandoned line of the Preston and Longridge Branch Railway (P&LR).
Originally designed to carry quarried stone in horse-drawn wagons, it became part of an ambitious plan to link the Lancashire coast to the heart of Yorkshire.
Opened in May 1840 it was a busy section but later closed to passengers in 1930 then goods in 1967.
To start off access was from the old Deepdale station site from the original walkover bridge facing West. Walking through much overgrowth towards the Miley Tunnel entrance you open up into the vast dark void of the first of three sections before getting to Maudlands. Prior to this a larger area is seen where the new Police station above is built. You then find a old railway bridge over the abandoned Preston canal on Maudland's Bank.
