Squires Gate bridge had major structural repairs undertaken by removal of the long metal beds that spanned across the length of the bridge as these were classed as eroding beyond repair and a similar story now hangs in the balance for Highbury Rd bridge in St Annes.
Locals and commuters are being told of major bridge repairs to be started Monday 7th January until Friday 10th May and diversions will be in place.
The return of one of the UK most heavy lifting crane will return to help remove and replace the spans as they did with Squires Gate bridge in early 2018.
“We are working closely with Fylde Borough Council and other partners to ensure disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum and this renewal work is completed in as short a time-frame as possible.
“We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while we complete this essential work.”
Work on the bridge will take place in shifts during the nights as they will relocate essential utility works before replacing the bridge decks.
It is advised to check with National Rail or Northern Rail as there will be no train services past St Annes on Sea.
Bus replacement services have been mentioned but nodrog has not been able to confirm at this stage.
Will this effect your travel plans or cause disruption or are you happy that this essential work is now being completed - comment below.
Thankfully there are easier options to follow helping complete your journey around the works as mentioned in the Lancashire County Council Notice. Below is a copy of this LCC Notice:
