Saturday, December 14th, Bolton station will be welcoming visitors to the town’s popular Christmas markets with a festive event of its own.
Twenty community groups and small businesses had stalls at the first Bolton Station Christmas Market, on Platform 4.
Stalls included Bolton Model Railway Club, which had a specially-made Christmas layout. There will be Bavarian-style treats from Bolton’s Pretzel and Spelt and Asian foods to add a bit of spice to the occasion. Justicia was selling a range of affordable Christmas gifts as well as last-minute Christmas cards.
The event was organised by Bolton Station Community Partnership, which will have its own stall selling good quality second-hand books and a specially-commissioned Christmas card featuring a snow scene at Bolton’s Crescent Road loco sheds in 1967, by Vernon Sidlow.
That Saturday was the last chance to visit the current exhibition in the Platform 5 Gallery. Andy Smith’s exhibition is both entertaining and challenging – and was not to be missed!
“We want lots of people to have a change from Manchester’s over-crowded Christmas Markets and come to Bolton – by train! They’ll got a warm welcome on Platform 4, a fabulous prelude to Bolton’s Christmas Market in the town centre,” said Paul Salveson of the station partnership.
Julie Levy, chair of the station partnership, added “We’re really grateful for the support we’ve received for this event from Transport for Greater Manchester, Northern and Network Rail. We think it will be a lovely occasion, building on the success of our August ‘food and drink’ fringe festival.”
