These locos are part of the Stadler company who are building Mersey Rails new 777 trains in Switzerland and Germany.
It has a pantograph sat on the top to use the electric supply from these very fizzy wires. 25kilo Volts come from these wires - considering your average family home only has 230 volts from your electric sockets - can you imagine how much power there is on our fizzy knitting!
In side these locos is a Caterpillar engine capable of pulling 950 break horse power - your average UK car only just has over 100.
One of the great features of this train is it can switch over to a diesel engine if needs be also - making it the first dual mode locomotive to use either power systems.
Enough of the boffin facts, so it was great to see another special coming into Blackpool and long may many more do!
Great thing about this event is a BR Class 86 electric loco will be on this set also - so we have a classic electric overhead train built in the 1960’s and a steam engine underneath the new overhead wires!
